5 WordPress Plugins to Add Ratings and Polls to Your Blog

You have your WordPress blog up and running. Now what you want to do is add an element of interactivity so that your users can feel involved and you can get feedback as to whether they like what they are reading or not.  One of the simplest ways to do this is to add ratings and poll plugins, which means you need to learn how to add them, and once you have done that we have got 5 of the best for you to help you get started.

  1. WP-Polls: WP-Polls are brilliant if you want to allow users to make multiple selections, and are very easy to configure.  These are AJAX poll systems and can be customized using CSS and template styling and are very user friendly – possibly some of the best around.
  2. PollDaddy Polls: These polls are controlled via your WordPress dashboard making adding polls and ratings a breeze.  They offer 20 styles for you to choose from when putting together your polls and they are generally very customizable. You need to be running WordPress 2.6 or higher.  Also available is a ratings menu, which again makes embedding ratings into your blog a walk in the park.
  3. Comment Rating: A simple plug in that does what it says on the tin. It is a useful tool which allows your users to assist in the process of cleaning up the stupid comments that get posted while elevating those that are worth reading nearer to the top.  Once you get this simple plugin up and running, your comments will have graphics for like and dislike that operate on simple AJAX JavaScript and mean in one click your users can rate their fellow posters.  You can then set the system to hide those posts with a certain amount of dislikes, and highlight those that have become very popular with lots of likes, plus the topics that are causing controversy with a split of like versus dislike can be made into hot topics – snazzy!
  4. GD Star Ratings: GD Star Ratings is another top-notch plugin that means you can create various rating systems to fit your various pages and posts with ease.  We love the levels of customization and this is an excellent plugin considering it is free.  The designer also offers various support documentation in the form of tutorial documents, and you will more than likely find the answer you need within them.
  5. Rate Anything!: This plugin comes from the lovely people at WordPress.org, a popular resource base for those running WordPress blogs, and is another ‘does what it says on the tin’ type plugin.  Install it to your site and you can use it to rate anything!  There isn’t a huge amount we can say about it, due to the fact it really is that simple, but hey it is also effective, so pop on over to http://WordPress.org/extend/plugins/rate-anything/ and grab it.
