WordPress is a great software platform for bloggers. It is easy and convenient for both the site owner and user plus it is highly customizable which makes it even more appealing. There are many uses for a blog. People who have personal sites may simply want to share experiences and interesting thoughts with their friends and family. Students and budding writers may wish to enhance their writing skills through regular practice.

But the vast majority of people who blog also use it to generate income. This may be in the form of a business website where the blog is used to update on products, news and services or it may be a vehicle to feature pay per click advertising such as AdSense. Regardless of the reason, the way to garner more viewers is to create a blog that is interesting. You too can be a better blogger by adhering to these 15 steps:

Make sure you have interesting content. Simply writing to stuff a post with keywords will turn a viewer off faster than any other issue with your site

Use spell check. Who wants to read a post littered with spelling errors that are easily fixable with a simple word processing program? It also makes you look like you are uneducated and this is also off putting.

While on the subject, grammar should be correct also. A word processor can help with this too but make sure to correct anything that is brought to your attention quickly.

Update your content regularly so users at your site have something new to read. If every time they revisit your site they see the same thing they will no longer visit or recommend your site to others.

When updating content it is perfectly fine to repost material from other sources as long as you do so with permission and cite your sources. This gives you fresh content without having to work at a new blog post several times per week.

However, do not go overboard with reposted material. The vast majority of blog posts should be original content. In fact, it is recommended by successful bloggers that copied or reposted material be limited to no more than 10% of your entire blog content.

Find a niche that you are comfortable in. If your blogs are all over the board you will not know what your target market is and can not cater to them and what they want to see or read about. Choose a niche you enjoy and are familiar with. If you are a particular expert in something, go with that and use personal experiences in your blog posts.

Become an authority on your niche. Set yourself apart from the rest by offering valuable advice or facts pertaining to your particular topic so that you become a trusted source of information.

Use your imagination and get creative. Be humorous and let your personality shine through with your blog posts. Unique posts are eye catching and you will attract more viewers.

Use various forms of media to entertain. Do not be afraid to use images or videos embedded in your blog posts. These are attractive and eye catching and can cause a buzz with reposting elsewhere.

Make it easy to have users share your posts elsewhere. Have available links on your site for emailing a post to friends or for sharing at social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and others.

Encourage interactivity with your blog. Building a community of users who read and comment on your blog is better than a stand alone, sole contributor. Make it easy for users to make comments.

Allow guest writers. When a user stands out as particularly vocal or shows promise as an amusing or entertaining writer invite that person to contribute a regular blog post.

Minimize spam. A downside of making it easy for users to comment and post is the possibility of also making it easier for spammers to post irrelevant posts. However, there are many different spam blocking tools you can use to help prevent this.

Make sure your site design is simple and attractive as well as easy to use. Sites that are distracting, too busy and cumbersome will detract people from spending time on it and reading what you have to say.
