WordPress is a very useful tool for bloggers who want to attract people to their content. It is one of the more popular blogging tools available on the Internet because it is easy to use and incredibly flexible. WordPress allows users to customize it so that it is more functional for the specific users of the site. One of the tricks to using WordPress or any blog is ensuring your visitors stay on the site as long as possible, want to come back for more and recommend your site to friends. This will help your site attract traffic and you will increase your search engine optimization. In order to do this, you need to put your best content forward.

Highlighting your best content will attract users to your posts immediately. The adage, “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” applies in blogging. If the first impression your users see is your best content than they are more likely to stay on the site and peruse other blog posts. They are also more likely to come back to see what new content you have added since last they checked and they are also more likely to refer your site to other. They can do this by sending links, emails or posting a blog to social networking sites.

If you are an avid poster with multiple posts each week the default is to feature your most recent posts. However, this does not necessarily mean they are your best posts. A great tool to use is the WP-Sticky plugin (http://lesterchan.net/portfolio/programming.php) which allows you to feature your best posts. There are tow options that can be used, announcement and sticky. Announcement takes a sticky and puts it as the primary post and then all other sticky posts will follow after that.

Another tool you can use is the Best Foot Forward Widget (http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/best-foot-forward.zip) a way to create favorite lists of your best blogs. The widget allows you to create your blog post title, a tag or multiple tags, set the number of blog posts to show at once and the order in which to sort it. With the use of the Best Foot Forward widget or the Sticky Post plugin, you can automatically post your best work for users to see quickly and easily. This will help users get a great first impression of your blog and increase the odds of having continual traffic.
